  78. WELCOME TO DYNAMIC GIN!
  79.  
  80. Dynamic Gin (TM) is a computer version of the classic Gin Rummy card
  81. game. The Dynamic Gin display shows cards for your hand, an opponent's
  82. hand, a discard pile, and a stock (unused portion of the deck) much
  83. like you would see them in a real Gin Rummy card game. There is also a
  84. rectangle where you deposit your final discard when you are ready to
  85. end a hand (knock).
  86.  
  87. Dynamic Gin is easy to play. You simply use the mouse to select and
  88. drag cards between the stock or discard piles and your own hand or to
  89. rearrange cards in your hand. The status bar at the bottom of the
  90. Dynamic Gin window indicates whose turn it is and what play options are
  91. available.
  92.  
  93. If you've never played Gin Rummy, it's not hard to learn. The Dynamic
  94. Gin on-line help contains descriptions of the object of the game,
  95. rules, terminology, and scoring. (Remember that in Help, you can click
  96. on any highlighted (colored, underlined) text at any time to jump to
  97. that topic.) You can probably also figure out how to play without using
  98. Help if you watch the instructions on the Dynamic Gin status bar.

  100. There are a number of different variations of Gin Rummy. The variation
  101. many people know is Simple Gin. Dynamic Gin includes two other
  102. variations: Standard Gin and Oklahoma Gin. Simple Gin is probably the
  103. easiest variation to learn, but we recommend you try all the
  104. variations.
  105.  
  106. Many people who play Simple Gin ignore the normal rules about passing
  107. at the beginning of a hand. If you're not familiar with passing, pay
  108. close attention to the Dynamic Gin status bar and/or look at the
  109. discussion of passing in Dynamic Gin Help. Alternatively you might want
  110. to try playing with the Eleven/Ten dealing method, which you can select
  111. under Options, Dealing.

  129. ===== Installation =====================================
  130.  
  131. To install Dynamic Gin on your computer:
  132.  
  133.     1.  First locate the Dynamic Gin installation program DGSETUP.EXE.
  134.         If you are installing from a CyberSym Technologies installation
  135.         disk, make sure the disk is inserted in your disk drive. If you
  136.         have obtained the Dynamic Gin installation package from some
  137.         other source (e.g. a shareware CD-ROM or an online forum), you
  138.         may need to decompress the package with a decompression utility
  139.         before you find DGSETUP.EXE.
  140.     2.  From the Windows 95 Start Menu, select Run.
  141.     3.  Type the full path for the DGSETUP.EXE file. (If you are
  142.         installing from an installation disk, this is A:\DGSETUP.EXE
  143.         where A is the letter of your disk drive).
  144.     4.  Choose OK.
  145.     5.  Follow the instructions on the screen.
  146.  
  147. The installation program will let you choose the location where you
  148. want Dynamic Gin on your hard drive. The install program searches for
  149. any previous installation of Dynamic Gin. If you have a previous
  150. installation (either 16-bit or 32-bit) we recommend you install
  151. Dynamic Gin 32-bit Edition into the same location as the previous
  152. installation. You will automatically retain any Dynamic Gin
  153. registration that you had previously activated. You will also retain
  154. any player configurations you might have established under the
  155. previous installation (see "Configuring Dynamic Gin for More than One
  156. User"). If you elect to install Dynamic Gin 32-bit Edition into the
  157. same location as a previous installation of Dynamic Gin 16-bit Edition,
  158. the install program will next ask if you want to remove the 16-bit
  159. edition.  Under most circumstances, it is best to remove the 16-bit
  160. edition.  However, if you regularly run Windows 3.1 or Windows NT in
  161. addition to Windows 95 on your computer, you might want to keep the
  162. 16-bit edition of Dynamic Gin to run under Windows 3.1 or NT.
  163.  
  164. If you install the new Dynamic Gin version into a different location
  165. and had previously registered Dynamic Gin, then you may need to
  166. activate the registration for the new Dynamic Gin installation. To do
  167. this, start the new version of Dynamic Gin, go to Options, Activate
  168. Registration, and enter the registered user name and user authorization
  169. code you received when you originally registered Dynamic Gin.
  170.  
  171. Once you have completed the installation, you do not need to keep the
  172. DGSETUP.EXE installation program on your hard disk. It is however a
  173. good idea to keep a backup floppy disk copy of the Dynamic Gin
  174. installation package (or the original installation disk), including
  175. DGSETUP.EXE.
  176.  
  177. There are a couple of other things to note about the installation:
  178.  
  179. a.  Folders/sub-folders created during installation do not appear in
  180.     the Windows Explorer until you select the View, Refresh option in
  181.     the Explorer.
  182.  
  183. b.  If you so choose, the installation program creates a program folder
  184.     (of whatever name you choose) containing several icons. This folder
  185.     appears wherever you designate on the Start menu. However, in
  186.     Windows 95, program folders don't automatically stay on your
  187.     desktop. If you want the Dynamic Gin folder to always appear on
  188.     your desktop (as opposed to just on the Start menu), follow these
  189.     instructions:
  190.  
  191.     --In the Explorer, find the folder (Dynamic Gin or whatever name
  192.       you chose during installation) which is typically located inside
  193.       the Programs folder inside the Start Menu folder inside the
  194.       Windows folder.
  195.  
  196.     --Using the mouse secondary (right) button, drag this Dynamic
  197.       Gin folder to your desktop.
  198.  
  199.     --Release the folder and select Create Shortcut(s) Here on the
  200.       popup menu that appears.
  201.  
  202.     --When the folder appears on your desktop, select the title
  203.       underneath, and edit the text title to be whatever you want.
  204.  
  205. During the installation process, the install program creates a file
  206. called INSTALL.LOG in the Dynamic Gin main directory. DO NOT move,
  207. edit, or delete this file if you ever intend to upgrade or uninstall
  208. Dynamic Gin.
  209.  
  210. When you first start Dynamic Gin after installation, under a few
  211. conditions, you may get a warning message about a "Dynamic Gin
  212. Backdrop Scenery Error". If so, Dynamic Gin runs with a default
  213. background after this message appears. In this case, you should either
  214. select Options, Scenery to load a backdrop scenery image, or you can
  215. check the Disable Scenery option under Options, Preferences to keep
  216. scenery off and disable this message in future sessions.

  248. agreement. All other rights not expressly granted here are reserved by
  249. CyberSym Technologies and its assigns or successors.

  251. DISTRIBUTION.  You are free to distribute Dynamic Gin as shareware to
  252. others, provided you distribute all original files without modification,
  253. and provided you accept no compensation. No one may distribute any
  254. Dynamic Gin user authorization code to any other individual or group,
  255. with the sole exception that a valid owner of a registered license for
  256. Dynamic Gin may transfer that license and its user authorization code to
  257. another individual. When such a transfer is made, the original owner must
  258. transfer or destroy any copies of Dynamic Gin that use that

  270. or 30 sessions, whichever is longer. (A session cannot exceed 24
  271. hours.) Use of Dynamic Gin beyond this evaluation period constitutes
  272. copyright infringement unless you have obtained a valid registered
  273. license for Dynamic Gin.

  275. REGISTERED LICENSE.  Upon purchase of Dynamic Gin, you receive a
  276. registered license and a unique user authorization code. The registered
  277. license gives you nonexclusive permission to make and load as many
  278. copies of major version 1 of Dynamic Gin (16-bit and/or 32-bit editions)
  279. or any of its minor version revisions on as many computers as you own,
  280. provided that no more than one of those copies of Dynamic Gin is ever in
  281. use at any one time.

  283. APPLICABILITY AND SEVERABILITY.  This Agreement shall be governed by
  284. the laws of the State of Utah. If any provision of this Agreement shall
  285. be held to be invalid or unenforceable for any reason, the remaining
  286. provisions shall continue to be valid and enforceable. If a court finds
  287. that any provision of this Agreement is invalid or unenforceable, but
  288. that by limiting such provision it would become valid or enforceable,
  289. then such provision shall be deemed to be written, construed, and
  290. enforced as so limited.
